Entry, exit, size — what the trade actually made or lost. It also shows the spread you paid to open it, because that cost is real and most calculators pretend it is not.
You buy at the ask and sell at the bid, so every trade starts slightly behind. On a 40-pip winner that is a rounding error. On a strategy averaging three pips a trade it is the entire edge.
What one round trip costs per standard lot, at our broker’s typical spreads:
| Pair | Typical spread | Cost per lot |
|---|---|---|
| EURUSD | 0.8 pips | $8.00 |
| GBPUSD | 1 pips | $10.00 |
| USDJPY | 1 pips | $6.33 |
| AUDUSD | 0.9 pips | $9.00 |
| USDCAD | 1.4 pips | $9.97 |
| USDCHF | 1.3 pips | $15.77 |
| NZDUSD | 1.4 pips | $14.00 |
| EURJPY | 1.6 pips | $10.12 |
| GBPJPY | 2 pips | $12.65 |
| AUDJPY | 1.5 pips | $9.49 |
| GBPCHF | 1.5 pips | $18.19 |
| GBPAUD | 2.5 pips | $17.53 |
| EURAUD | 2.5 pips | $17.53 |
| GBPCAD | 1.8 pips | $12.81 |
Scalping GBPAUD at 2.5 pips means paying about $25 a lot before the trade has done anything. That is why cheap majors dominate short-term strategies, and why our backtester charges the real per-pair spread on every trade instead of pretending trading is free.
Swap. Hold past 21:00 UTC and you pay or receive overnight interest, charged in triple on Wednesdays. Small per night, meaningful over weeks.
Slippage. Market orders around news fill worse than you asked. No calculator can predict it; assume it exists.
Commission. Raw-spread accounts charge separately, typically $3.50 a side per lot. Add it if your broker works that way.
